Notes & Reviews:

Bach a poet? In our age of performer's intensive efforts at keeping faithful to the original and the "correct" performing style, this statement sounds surreal today, seeming to reek of nostalgia. From this perspective, Bachiana, featuring the Duo d'Accord, must appear anachronistic, since its music takes us back to an epoch - the era of the Romantics - in which Bach was played in a free, even occasionally downright carefree, style. "The artistry of Duo d'Accord lies in that their performance appears to develop completely freely and flows with all due desirable precision." - (FonoForum)

American Record Guide, May/June 2016
The two pianists composing Duo d'Accord, Lucia Juang and Sebastian Euler, offer here quite an entertaining treat. Moscheles created a set of preludes for two pianos from the WTC, sometimes (as in the one in G from Book I) adding a pleasant countermelody for the second keyboard, sometimes filling out the texture with additional contrapuntal parts more obviously derived from the original (as in the prelude in D from Book II). I presume that these pieces were intended for domestic music making and possibly also as training for conservatory pianists playing in ensemble.

They're all lovely and beautifully played. Interspersed are Schumann's fugues for pedal piano - very effective, fascinating examples of the composer's art, and quite nicely performed too. The program closes with Reinecke's Variations on a Sarabande of Bach (the one from French Suite 1). This work is another revelation for me; the variations are not simply decorative and treat various aspects of the theme in very interesting and expressive ways. All in all, a marvelous release.
