Notes & Reviews:

Firma Melodiya presents an album of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Church Sonatas. Vladimir Spivakov is known for his Mozart interpretations as a soloist, chamber ensemble member and conductor. From the first years of his artistic career, Spivakov showed interest in Mozart's heritage composed in different genres. Mozart's fourteen Church Sonatas were recorded in 1974 by a constellation of brilliant musicians such as Vladimir Spivakov, violinist Anatoly Sheinyuk (now a professor of the Detroit Conservatory), Yuli Turovsky, a cellist and future founder of the I Musici de Montréal Chamber Orchestra, and Sergei Dizhur, one of the best Soviet organists.

American Record Guide, March/April 2016
The ideas are miniature, to be sure, but the skill and beauty of the way the ideas are carried out is significant - and a portent of grand things to come. The works are played with sensitivity and precision, making this very delightful. The thoughtful liner notes are written by the noted musicologist Simon Volkov (Shostakovich Testament).
