Notes & Reviews:

Highlighting the depthless world of Wagnerian operas, the acclaimed bass-baritone Evgeny Nikitin performs from some of his favorite Wagnerian roles with a collection taken from seven of Wagner's operas. With Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège conducted by Christian Arming and featuring the mezzo soprano Michaela Schuster.

American Record Guide, May/June 2016
It's rare to hear Russians comfortable with Wagner operas in German. Nikitin is a welcome exception. Most of the words are clear. The voice is of the right weight for the roles he sings here. The Dutchman's monolog is strongly declaimed, with easy top notes; and the long scene for Telramund and Ortrud (the excellent Michaela Schuster) from Act 2 of Lohengrin is solidly sung and dramatic effective.

Arming and his orchestra are always dramatically alert when accompanying the baritone. The Act 3 Lohengrin Prelude is banged out lustily. Nikitin is a vivid Klingsor on at least three different Parsifal recordings, and I can understand why he wants to expand his Wagnerian compass. And it is a pleasure to hear a voice that is not overpowered by the demands of the music. This is, at best, a promising recording.
