Notes & Reviews:

The Trio Kandinsky (violin, cello, piano) has performed with many different chamber ensembles at numerous festivals worldwide. Their activities as soloists, researchers and educators have greatly contributed to the dissemination of 20th century musical heritage.

American Record Guide, May/June 2016
Guinjoan abandoned serialism in the 1980s, finding it a "dead-end street" and preferring a freer modernism layered on tradition, including the folk music of his own culture. Passim Trio is more playful tone develops as the piece moves toward a tonal ending. An earlier piece, Jondo, is an explosive homage to Flamenco, with the piano as a guitar-like protagonist. The most soulful work is the 1996 Elegia, a cello solo written as a memorial to his mother. Here the eloquent artistry of cellist Amparo Lacruz is allowed to shine. Her tone is lustrous in the lyrical sections (based on a children's song and an Easter Week melody) and eerie in the poetic ending. In Duo, she struts and swaggers as Emil Brugalla's piano experiments with colorful percussion effects. Violinist Corrado Balsi joins her in the 1993 'Aniversari' for violin and cello, a microtonal piece that is both austere and sensual - to my ears, the most expressive work on the program. The recorded sound is warm and intimate.
