American Record Guide, May/June 2016
Both these sonatas have been recorded many times, the suave and brilliant 1963 Corigliano by now almost as much a classic as the Mendelssohn. Corigliano told me in an interview that this work, his "opus one", so impressed his father - concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic - after it won a prize in Italy, that he changed his mind about trying to talk his son out of becoming a composer and secretly learned to play the work before making the first recording of it for CRI. Both sonatas on this new Equilibrium are very well played.
