Notes & Reviews:

Schubert composed his two great piano trios in B flat D898 and E flat D929, as well as the lovely Notturno D897, at the height of his powers, shortly before he died aged 31. These works express both the melancholy of farewell and the elation of music-making, the melodies as exhilarating as any he created. This is romantic Vienna's soul music: inspiring in its seemingly effortless virtuosity, it allows us a glimpse of heaven. The Moscow Rachmaninov Trio, already acclaimed in the Russian repertoire, give us a deeply romantic Schubert: joyful, serene and deeply moving, his music makes of us kindred spirits.
