Notes & Reviews:

While the late Romantic composer Paul Dukas may be best known for his phantasmagoric 'The Sorcerer's Apprentice', his superlative orchestrations, choirs and cantatas are worthy of more attention than they have been given. Dukas was known to destroy his own manuscripts in fits of despair with his own creative abilities, but selections from his surviving compositions are included in this wide ranging collection featuring the notable Flemish Radio Choir with the Brussels Philharmonic conducted by Herve Niquet. Included in this handsome limited edition 2 CD set is a 124 page book that features Dukas' autobiography along with critical writings and librettos for the choir and cantata pieces.

American Record Guide, May/June 2016
The performances are all excellent. The soloists sing expressively with firm pitch and good diction, and the choral parts are well handled. There's sturdy orchestral support and firm direction by Niquet. The discs in this series are mounted inside hardbound books a little less than 6" deep and 9" high. In the assets column, the books have interesting biographical material and full texts and translations. It's a series with a limited run of 2500 copies, so it'll be worthwhile to grab one. In the March/April 2015 issue, when reviewing the composer's symphony, I noted a wish to hear more of his work. Apparently all things do come to those who wait.
