Humble Pie: On to Victory [Limited Edition]

Album Notes

Humble Pie returned after a five-year hiatus (during which frontman and blues shouter par excellence Steve Marriott had worked with a reformed version of the Small Faces). Here, original drummer Jerry Shirley joins Marriott, as do bassist Antony Jones and ex-Jeff Beck Group vocalist Bobby Tench on guitar.

Musically, the formula is exactly what you'd expect, which is to say that the Pie are still a brash, strutting boogie machine capable of shredding eardrums with the best of 'em. Marriott's originals, like "Fool for a Pretty Face," feature high class Bad Company style riffage, and there are excellent versions of soul and R&B classics like Otis Redding's "A Lover's Prayer" and Marvin Gaye's often-covered "Baby Don't You Do It."
