The 2015 film Brooklyn was based on the 2009 novel of the same name by Colm Tóibín about a young Irishwoman emigrating to the U.S. in the early '50s. This various-artists collection features period recordings used in the film, such as "Be Cool aka Keep Cool" by Johnny Moore's Three Blazers and "Five, Ten, Fifteen Hours" by Ruth Brown, though half of the soundtrack consists of new recordings of traditional Irish folk tunes and popular songs of the era ("Dynaflow," "A Garden in the Rain") by an ensemble led by contemporary fiddler John Carty. The soundtrack closes with a tender a cappella performance of "Casadh an tSúgáin" by the Gloaming's Iarla O Lionáird. (The film's score by Michael Brook was released separately.) ~ Marcy Donelson
