Notes & Reviews:

Hungarian-American cellist János Starker was a child prodigy. He gave his first public performance at age six and made his professional debut at age fourteen. After the war, Starker became principal cellist of the Budapest Opera and the Budapest Philharmonic. Starker emigrated to the United States in 1948 to become principal cellist of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra under Antal Doráti and in 1949, he moved to New York City to become principal cellist of the Metropolitan Opera under Fritz Reiner. On this tribute, he performs cello concertos by Martinu and Prokofiev alongside Dohnányi's Konzertstück Op.12.
