Album Remarks & Appraisals:

A superb selection of Irish ballads delivered by some of the greatest representatives of Irish folk, e.g. The Dubliners, Declan Hunt, Terry O'Neill, Brier, Corrib Folk, Blackthorn and many more. The songs include such classics as The Boys of Killibegs, All for me Grog, Cuanla, Sing Irishmen Sing, Carnlough Bay, Paddy's Green Shamrock Shore and many others.

American Record Guide, May/June 2016
Both of these players are sensitive to the style and play these pieces with subtlety and rubato as well as enthusiasm and technical accuracy. Their musical emphasis is on expressivity and it reflects the meaning of the music. The three sonatas for a bass voice are beautifully formed and melodically attractive pieces well worth playing on the cello.

These works are full of other influences, both musical and political, from jazz to Napoleon. The detailed liner notes by Dr Jurjen Vis contribute to this listener's enjoyment considerably, and so does the clarity and warmth of the playing and the recorded sound. If you would like to be introduced to a more romantic and simpler Bach, here he is!
