Notes & Reviews:

After recording the complete set of Mazurkas, Nocturnes, Polonaises, Songs, and Waltzes Alex Szilasi now continues his series of Chopin's works with a selection from Impromptus and further miniatures of non-dance character. It is, however, no exaggeration to claim that the real protagonist of the recording is the marvellous instrument the pieces were performed on: the 1843 built Pleyel upright piano (pianino), Chopin's favourite piano brand.

American Record Guide, May/June 2016
At first it seem strange to hear the music played on this early instrument. It is also my first encounter with Szilasi's recordings. What reaches the ears is a mellower than usual sound, particularly in the lower to middle register. The sound does not escape a tinge of the wooden. It is really not unpleasant - just different. The interpretations are never lacking in sensitivity. In many respects they are quite lovely, often deeply felt, and of the contours and shape of the pieces.

The notes are pretty good, and the recorded sound presents no problems. As an interesting - nay, fascinating supplement to other recordings this earns a guarded recommendation.
