Album Remarks & Appraisals:

Marc Ribot's The Young Philadelphians - featuring jazz critic favorites Mary Halvorson, Jamaaladeen Tacuma, and G. Calvin Weston - pays tribute to twin legacies: the mindblowing harmolodic punk-funk of Ornette Coleman's first Prime Time band and the sweet, optimistic pulse of 1970s Philly soul.

Features guitarist Mary Halvorson, #7 in NPR's Music Jazz Critics Poll Top 10 list for 2015. Drummer G. Calvin Weston, a jazz critic's darling, has recorded extensively for Amulet Records (Billy Martin, Medeski, Martin & Wood), performed with Ornette Coleman's Prime Time and John Lurie's Lounge Lizards, and had lengthy runs with James "Blood" Ulmer and James Carter. Bassist Jamaaladeen Tacuma is well known for his albums as bandleader on the Gramavision label, and for his work with Ornette Coleman during the '70s and '80s. Marc Ribot is a widely recognized original on the guitar, and a first-call guitarist for such musicians such as T Bone Burnett, Tom Waits, and Elvis Costello. CD includes bonus track "Do It Anyway You Wanna."

Boston Globe
Marc Ribot's creativity and versatility astound, confound, and frighten.

Rolling Stone
Guitar trailblazer Mary Halvorson turns jazz on its head ... just as likely to pick out intricate, harmonically and melodically complex lines of stunning beauty as she is to unleash a violent spray of atonal, harshly distorted six-string noise.

All About Jazz
Bassist Jamaaladeen Tacuma's ... playing is as majestic as ever.

Time Out New York
G. Calvin Weston - an avant-garde jazz-funk heavyweight.
