Dave Shepherd Quartet/Teddy Wilson: Teddy Wilson with the Dave Shepherd Quartet

Album Notes

During the late '60s, pianist Teddy Wilson gigged and recorded in England with a quartet led by clarinetist Dave Shepherd. This live recording dates from 1968 and features Benny Goodman-styled small-group swing, with Wilson, bassist Peter Chapman, and drummer John Richardson joined at times by vibraphonist Ronnie Greaves and clarinetist Dave Shepherd, whose main influence seems to have been Benny Goodman. This album parallels other Wilson/Shepherd releases of similar vintage, including The Second Time Around and the Black Lion discs Air Mail Special and Stomping at the Savoy. Very nice mainstream jazz, well played and firmly planted in the swing tradition. ~ arwulf arwulf
