Notes & Reviews:

These are reissued and restored recordings made in 1952-53, and 1955, originally released on Westminster, although the Hindemith comes from a live performance at the Mannes College of Music in 1963.

American Record Guide, May/June 2016
Doktor's piano partner, Nadia Reisenberg (1904-83), is superb. Her contribution to the quality of these performances cannot be ignored. She was a student of the great Josef Hoffman and sister of the theremin virtuoso Clara Rockmore. I find her playing even more engaging than Doktor's, especially in the Hindemith. I would love to hear more from her. Performing for an audience seems to have energized the duo, and this is the most impassioned performance here. It's so good that I soon find myself forgetting about the lesser quality of the recorded sound. Booklet notes are by Reisenberg's son, Robert Sherman.
