Nils Anders Mortensen began playing the piano at age three, and won the Norwegian Young Pianist Competition in 1986. He studied at the Norwegian Academy of Music, ╔cole Normale in Paris, and Hochschule fŘr Musik in Hannover with Einar Steen-N°kleberg. Other important teachers have been Tatjana Nikolajeva and Hans Leygraf. In 1998 he won the Mozarteum Prize in Salzburg, and in 2004 he received the Robert Levin Memorial Prize. He has recorded piano concertos of Geirr Tveitt with the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, and his debut solo album Im Freien was released in 2012.
