Notes & Reviews:

The Oslo Philharmonic launches the first release in a series of the complete symphonies of Alexander Scriabin! The orchestra and its Chief Conductor, Vasily Petrenko, offer the captivating coupling of the Russian composer's Symphony No. 3 "Divine Poem" and "Le Pome de l'extase" ('The Poem of Ecstasy'), otherwise known as Symphony No. 4. Both works were recorded in Oslo in February 2015. Vasily Petrenko already has an impressive list of recordings of Russian repertoire to his name. As well as a BBC Music Magazine Award-nominated recording of Rachmaninov's First Symphony on Warner, Petrenko's set of the complete Shostakovich symphonies with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra has been hailed as a modern recording landmark. His recording with violinist Baiba Skride and the Oslo Philharmonic of Szymanowski's Violin Concertos for Orfeo was also nominated for a BBC Music Magazine Award last year.

A conductor with an intelligent, informed, deep love of this music.

American Record Guide, March/April 2016
Petrenko starts out slightly lightening the opening gesture. His reading, which runs three or four minutes less than most, imparts to the whole work a springy, tensile strength that's exhilarating. I'd pick Petrenko's as my favorite interpretation of the symphony, period. The Oslo Phil was a delightful surprise, responding to every nuance of Petrenko's vision of the music. Petrenko has the timpani sustain a roll.
