Notes & Reviews:

Two Spanish composers, Jesús Bal y Gay and Rosia García Ascot (1902-2002), who was a student of Manuel de Falla, are featured on this recording with performances of their works for piano and their songs.

American Record Guide, May/June 2016
The music is interesting and varied. There is something here for people interested in new music and people who prefer more traditional harmonies. A quirky aspect of the program is that all the pieces are quite short; the longest track is the second movement of Bal y Gay's Dos Movimentos de la Suite Para Orquesta, clocking in at 4:10. I like the music of both composers; Garcia's music is clear and intricate, and Bal y Gay's - in particular the Hojas de Album - has more harmonic depth. Bal y Gay's songs are extremely interesting, the piano and vocal lines winding gently around each other with some angular melodies. I was left wanting to hear more, so it's effective. Rios and Juarez are both capable and sensitive performers.
