Album Remarks & Appraisals:
Ketil Bjørnstad and a C. Bechstein grand piano Ketil Bjørnstad´s solo piano recordings are a running theme throughout his extensive discography. His new twin albums Shimmering and Images continues in the same tradition and is in many respects an extension of the project Bjørnstad began with the exceptionally popular and critically acclaimed release The Bjørnstad Sessions from 2006. Shimmering and Images are recorded by Bjørnstad alone on a C. Bechstein grand piano which treats us with both power and intimacy, and ties the two albums perfectly together. The music flows freely, alternating between totally improvised segments and new versions of songs and musical fragments that hold profound meaning for him. In these intimate musical encounters we get close to the musician and artist Ketil Bjørnstad. He paints a large canvas, both dynamically and emotionally, and also gets close to us, the listeners.
