Notes & Reviews:

Orange Mountain Music presents the première recording of Philip Glass's 2013 opera The Perfect American, which explores the death of Walt Disney. An exceptional roster of soloists, including Christopher Purves as Disney and the orchestra and chorus of the Teatro Real Madrid under the direction of Dennis Russell Davies, presents a fictionalized biography of his final months. We discover Disney's delusions of immortality, his utopian visions and his tortured life. Characters include Wilhelm Dantine, a cartoonist who worked for Disney who desperately seeks his recognition, Disney's wife Lillian, his confidante Hazel, his brother Roy, his children Diane and Sharo and his close (and ill-treated) collaborators. All contribute to the opera's remarkable 'animation' of the life of Disney.
