Notes & Reviews:
The Originals Series offers listeners the opportunity to explore key albums from the Yellow Label's LP era and experience the power and passion of performances by a host of visionary artists. Now DG welcomes ten new titles to the range, including Smetana's monumental cycle of symphonic poems devoted to his Czech homeland, Ma vlast. This recording finds perfect advocates in James Levine and the sumptuously toned Wiener Philharmoniker.
Levine s performance of Smetana s often elusive cycle of symphonic poems is quite splendid, full of momentum and thrust, aptly paced, with much imaginative detail. [...] The sound is full-bodied and vivid, with a wide amplitude and range, to give the music plenty of atmosphere.
