Notes & Reviews:

Gunnar de Frumerie is considered one of Sweden's most important 20th century composers. He was a pianist himself and wrote a lot of music for solo piano, and chamber music including his instrument. Mats Widlund, one of Sweden's foremost pianists, is, however, alone in recording de Frumerie's sonatinas and first piano sonata, the latter at the time (1968) considered too difficult(!) to play for Swedish pianists. A very personal style with references to Rachmaninoff, Shostakovich, Prokofieff, Debussy, Scriabine, and Satie.
