Notes & Reviews:

Although Shostakovich entrusted the world premières of his String Quartets to the Beethoven Quartet, it was the Borodin Quartet that earned the works worldwide acclaim. This release (the first in a series) is taken from the Borodin's first stereo recordings of the quartets, recorded for Melodiya in the late 60s and early 70s. Carefully remastered as part of Praga's Genuine Stereo Lab series, this disc features the first, second and fifth quartets.
