John Field: Complete Nocturnes / Elizabeth Joy Roe, piano

Album Summary

>Field, John : Nocturnes (18) for piano
Performer Composer

Notes & Reviews:

Following her critically acclaimed coupling of the Britten & Barber Piano Concertos with the London Symphony Orchestra, Elizabeth Joy Roe enlightens the extraordinary world of John Field. Field, an Irish composer, is regarded as the "Father of the Nocturne" who predates Chopin. This release is the first recording of all 18 Nocturnes on a single album.

BBC Music Magazine, September 2016
Roe's playing is tender and graceful, with a delicate, songful touch, and she balances the various elements judiciously and always with attention to detail.

Gramophone Magazine, August 2016
Roe is anxious at every turn to make poetry from this music, and she has a suitably haloed sound. Everything is very thoughtful, and she can be delicate, too, in response to Field's filigree flights of fancy.
