Notes & Reviews:

Bringing listeners closer to the composer's intentions is what the Period Instrument Movement is all about. This mission, however, is impossible without supreme sound quality and that's why Analogue Stereo Recording Technology revolutionized the way Archiv Produktion recorded between 1959 and 1981. This 50-CD box set celebrates the Golden Age of Archiv Produktion by presenting the label's finest analogue recordings, 9 of which are released on CD for the first time.

Reviews

Essential!
I can recommend this highly from items I originally had on vinyl: Purcell anthems from Oxford Christ Church Cathedral Choir ... Helmut Walcha's magisterial performances of "Organ Masters before Bach" (apparently the complete album) ... Schuetz "Psalmen Davids" (I believe the 1st complete original instrument performance with a very colorful "Italianate" continuo group) ... some early Harnoncourt ... late Medieval Leonin & Perotin.
