Notes & Reviews:

Internationally renowned conductor José Serebrier came to instant prominence following the release of his landmark 1974 recording of Charles Ives' Fourth Symphony. Over the last four decades, he has become one of the most frequently recorded and critically lauded conductors in history.

Urlicht is pleased to release for the first time on CD some of Maestro Serebrier's rarest recordings, first issued on the pioneering Finnadar and Dharma labels.

Serebrier's debut recording of Peter Mennin's Ninth Symphony affirms this composer's position as one of America's greatest composers in a performance filled with intensity and dramatic thrust. While William Lee is best known as a jazz pedagogue, his orchestral cycle Veri, filled with nuanced orchestral color and melodic invention, stands as testament to his enormous and eclectic talend.

Two works by Serebrier are also included: his first recordings of Poema elegiac and Nueva, the latter (written for amultime4dia `happening`) featuring legendary virtuoso double-bassist Gary Karr, in a double role as narrator.

Newly remastered from archival sources, this CD is a must-have for Maestro Serebrier's worldwide following and especially lovers of American music.
