Notes & Reviews:

Romanian-Jewish composer Anatol Vieru (1926-1998) is a twentieth century artist worth investigating. A student of Aram Khachaturian, Vieru composed three operas, seven symphonies, eight string quartets, a great deal of chamber works, and numerous concertos. Vieru was part of what is known as the Bucharest New Music generation, who composed thrilling and sensual music, and resisted the Ceausescu dictatorship, striking into the mainstream during the seventies and eighties. This album is the second installation in the Anatol Vieru set from Troubadisc, featuring the composer's orchestral works.
