Notes & Reviews:

Equally respected as a violinist, violist, conductor, pedagogue and chamber musician, Pinchas Zukerman is a master of our time. With this original jackets' box set, Deutsche Grammophon celebrates this iconic artist and gives listeners the opportunity to explore the evolution of his artistry. This 22-CD limited edition box set includes all of Zukerman's recordings made for DG, Philips and Decca between 1974 and 1996 and includes everything from Bach and Beethoven to Strauss and Vaughan Williams.

It began in 1974 with a classic recording of Vaughan Williams The Lark Ascending with Daniel Barenboim and The English Chamber Orchestra. Over the next two decades, Pinchas Zukerman released a series of albums for Deutsche Grammophon: The great Violin Concertos by Beethoven, Brahms and Sibelius Benchmark recordings of the Brahms Violin and Viola Sonatas The Bach Brandenburg Concertos with the Los Angeles Phil Iconic Mozart with Itzhak Perlman and a star-studded Four Seasons with Stern, Mintz and Perlman In 1986 the searching Through Roses, a new composition by Zukerman s long-time piano-partner Marc Neikrug For Philips he recorded an equally attractive number of albums: The Mendelssohn Violin Concerto (coupled with the Octet) He teamed up with Midori in Bach, with horn-player Herman Baumann for the Mozart Horn Concertos, and with recorder player Michala Petri in a Telemann program. Two anthologies of popular and light pieces. For Decca, a 2-CD set of Schubert Piano Trios with Ashkenazy and Lynn Harrell, and, as violist, Berliozs Harold in Italy with Montreal under Dutoit. Zukerman again seemed the forever-young virtuoso: expressively resourceful, infectiously musical, technically impeccable, effortless. As usual, it was a joy to be in his musical company. --Los Angeles Times

The most distinctive aspect of Mr. Zukerman's playing, something that struck the ear right away, was his remarkable tone production. He is a total hedonist at heart, and without pressing or forcing his instrument he generated a warm, liquid sound that effortlessly filled the hall. --The New York Times

There's no denying Zukerman's legitimate claim as a triple threat. His violin playing is bright and sinuous, his viola playing is rich and soulful, and he conducts with an abundance of spirit. --The San Francisco Chronicle
