Better Angels - Works for Oboe by Richard Strauss, Samuel Barber (1910-1981), Richard Blackford (b.1954), and LeoÜ Janácek / Emily Pailthorpe, Oboe; Martyn Brabbins, BBC SO

Notes & Reviews:

Oboe virtuoso Emily Pailthorpe, with her new release, brings tougher some of the most well-known concertos for oboe as well as a new work by Richard Blackford, after which the album takes its name. Richard Blackford's "The Better Angels of Our Nature" was commissioned by Emily Pailthorpe in 2012. The title comes from Abraham Lincoln's first inaugural address in 1861. Emily Pailthorpe's unique sound and compelling musicianship has garnered her a large following amongst fellow musicians and concertgoers alike. She was the youngest artist ever to the prestigious Fernand Gillet International Oboe Competition.
