Notes & Reviews:

Beethoven's Symphony No.4 is sunny and cheerful, recalling the music of Joseph Haydn. By contrast, Shostakovich's Symphony No.10 contains fifty minutes of tragedy, despair, terror and violence but only three of triumph. These historical performances from the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra and Yevgeny Mravinsky were recorded in 1955.

Notes & Reviews:

Recording information: Prague, Smetana Hall (06/03/1955).
