Notes & Reviews:
Pierre Boulez continues his critically-acclaimed Mahler symphony cycle with the composers most straightforward and unproblematic score. It comes as something of a surprise to realize that for its earliest audiences it was no such thing. "One of us must be crazy, and it isn't me!" wrote critic Eduard Hanslick to open his review of the first Viennese performance of the symphony on December 18th, 1900.
