Notes & Reviews:

The music of Ole Buck is simple and beauty-seeking, sophisticated and surprising on its own terms. In some works he will make do with as few as five notes, but his incomparable sense of timing ensures that the listener never feels for more. This release presents four works by Buck, three of which are inspired by nature.

The music of Ole Buck is simple and beauty-seeking, sophisticated and surprising on its own terms. In some works he will make do with as few as five notes, but the composer's incomparable sense of timing ensures that the listener never feels the need for more. This album presents premiere recordings of four of Buck's works, of which three are inspired by nature: Fiori di ghiaccio (Ice Flowers), A Tree and Flower Ornament Music - all recorded by Athelas Sinfonietta Copenhagen and conductred by Jesper Nordin. Buck is considered one of the only "true" Danish minimalist composers - his music is well worth running to ground. His minimalism differs from that of the major American practitioners but its shimmer and glow quickly win it new friends even if there is some pepper in the mix.
