Notes & Reviews:
The year 1849 was one of Schumann's most prolific. The inspiration for his Spanische Liebeslieder and Spanische Liederspiel was an anthology of Spanish texts translated by Emanuel Geibel. These short love poems were ideal material for music in the tangy 'Spanish' style tinged with the colors of central Europe. Considerably more intimate, the Minnespiel takes us from storybook Spain to German Romanticism. Originally released in 2010, these charming and evocative works, ranging from solo songs to quartets, are sung here by a world-class quartet of singers - soprano Marlis Petersen, mezzo Akne Vondung, tenor Werner Güra and bass-baritone Konrad Jarnot.
