Leonid Desyatnikov (b. 1955): The Children of Rosenthal / Alexander Vedernikov, conductor; Blshoi Theatre of Russia solists, choir and orchestra

Album Summary

>Desyatnikov, Leonid : The Children of Rosenthal, opera in 2 acts
Conductor Ensembles Composer

Notes & Reviews:

It wouldn't be an overstatement to say that the premiere of the opera, The Children of Rosenthal, became one of the most significant events of Russian musical culture of the 21st century. It was the first time when the Bolshoi Theatre commissed a new opera from a contemporary composer. Leonid Desyatnikov has showed his worth in very different genres and yet his style can hardly be defined and arbitrarily forced into a Procrustean bed of stylistic designations unless he doesn't mind the term "post-modernism."
