As an experimentally minded, folk-based string instrumentalist, Sandy Bull was way ahead of his time. When his debut album came out in 1963, only John Fahey was doing anything close to it. The first half is occupied by a 22-minute acoustic guitar epic, while the other tracks find Bull stretching out intrepidly on banjo and electric guitar, journeying through everything from Carl Orff's Carmina Burana to the traditional folk tune "Little Maggie."
