Album Remarks & Appraisals:
Egyptian oud player Mohamed Abozekry takes the musical genres of his eastern birthplace to fresh new heights, breathing into them the inventiveness of jazz and the energy of rock. Karkadé is a hibiscus flower that loans its name to a popular Egyptian tea. This album is a musical portrait of his homeland, melding Sufi dervishes and folk tunes. It pays special tribute to a centuries-old culture.
