Notes & Reviews:
On this release, Sébastien Daucé and Ensemble Correspondances recreate Christmas Eve as it was celebrated in France during the reign of Louis XIV. Charpentier's Pastorale depicts the shepherds' vision of the angel and their pilgrimage to the manger in Bethlehem. The music is especially charming, filled with examples of the "pastoral" style favored by French Baroque composers.

This is state-of-the-art Charpentier, following traditions established by William Christie's Les Arts Florissants. The "O" Antiphons for Advent - short, intense consort pieces proclaiming the coming of Christ - make an ideal coupling for those who fancy celebrating "Nodl" in 2016.
