Notes & Reviews:
This CD, which features a collaboration with his musical partner Götz Schumacher on piano, is testimony to tremendous musical enthusiasm and sensitivity. At the heart of the very personal selection of works performed by these two musicians are arrangements from Italian operatic arias such as E lucevan le stelle from Puccini's Tosca or the Cavatine Casta Diva from the first act of the tragedy.
The CD also includes four bravuras by the opera composer and contrabass virtuoso Giovanni Bottesini, among others the title track Il Carnevale di Venezia.
Conductor Zubin Mehta writes about Michael Rieber's contrabass performance: "I am impressed by this wonderful sound. Michael Rieber's command of his instrument is astounding.
