Tchaikovsky: Sympnonies Nos. 4, 5 & 6 Pathétique / Edward Serov, Volgograd Philharmonic Orchestra

Notes & Reviews:

In Tchaikovsky's complete works, his three late symphonies - Nos. 4,5 & 6, written between 1876/77 and 1893 occupy a special place. Tchaikovsky himself described these works as "subjectively" inspired and, in this sense, programmatic - even if he never talked publicly about the programs involved. The Philharmonic Orchestra of Volgograd has recorded these three symphonies under the baton of Edward Serov, and the result is impressively intense and powerful.

Since the Volgograd Philharmonic Orchestra was founded in 987, it has been run by its conductor, Edward Serov. The orchestra has approximately 90 musicians, all of whom received their musical education at leading Russian conservatoires. In just a short time has received rapturous receptions on numerous tours throughout Europe and the United States.
