Album Summary

>Brossé, Dirk : World Heritage Songs from China, song cycle for soprano & orchestra
Performer Conductor Ensemble Composer

Notes & Reviews:

This project is an original musical crossover project : Age-old traditional Chinese melodies were arranged and orchestrated for soprano and orchestra by a western composer, Dirk Brossť. Everything about Chinese folk music is naturally somewhat strange to foreigners, but those who listen with open ears hear extraordinarily fine melodies. With her nimble and captivating voice, classically trained opera soprano Qilian Chen knows exactly how to handle the sophisticated nuances and textual expressions of these folk songs to perfection. The smooth merging of her subtle vocal lines with the poetic, symphonic accompaniment consequently produces music that doesn't fragment into the 'here' and 'there', but comes together in the here and now. For Dirk Brossť, who has opened his ears to other cultures several times in his oeuvre, that is where the power of the music lies. Dirk Brossť is a multi-faceted composer and a respected conductor on the international music scene. He is currently Music Director of 'The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia', Music Director of the Filmfestival Ghent and Music Director and principal conductor of the 'Star Wars in Concert World Tour'. He made his Carnegie Hall debut in February 2016 conducting the Chamber Orchestra of New York.
