Notes & Reviews:
The American composer Frank Erickson (1923–1996) is arguably the most-performed composer of young school band music. A catalog of more than 300 band compositions and arrangements made Frank Erickson among the most acclaimed composers of works performed by school bands in the latter half of the 20th Century. The name Frank Erickson is synonymous with the American school band movement. His compositions for beginning- and intermediate-level bands are rightfully recognized perennial standards in the school band catalog. But with this preeminence also came a slighting of his more advanced, large-scale compositions. The three symphonies for concert band are among his overlooked works.
