Mozart: Piano Concertos No. 27; Bartók: Piano Concerto No. 1 / Rudolf Serkin, piano

Notes & Reviews:

It is often forgotten that Rudolf Serkin (1903-91) originally came from central Europe, received his musical training in Vienna, and promoted the music of Schönberg, Reger and Bartok before embarking on a career in the United States. There he became a key player in the musical world and an influential teacher. Like Annie Fischer, Geza Anda and Daniel Barenboim, Serkin was able to convey the spiritual link between Mozart's giocoso and Bartok's night music. Here, the consummate interpreter of Beethoven returns to his musical roots.
