Mark Isham: Kiss the Girls [Original Motion Picture Soundtrack] [Deluxe Edition]

Album Notes

Original score composed by Mark Isham.

Includes liner notes by Hank Bordowitz.

This includes both the soundtrack and the score to Kiss the Girls in a singular album setting. The first four tracks are soundtrack material, performed and written for purposes other than the movie in general. The second portion is the score material, written exclusively by jazzman Mark Isham for the movie. In the soundtrack portion, there are a couple of blues tracks, one by John Lee Hooker, and the other an old Leadbelly tune performed by Little Richard. There's also a slightly angry rap number as well. Then comes Mark Isham's work. The music was created very specifically for the movie, to be pushed as source cues whenever needed. As a result, it needs the movie to exude its full power. It's not bad even without it, though the first four tracks provide a much more easily listenable atmosphere with the movie itself absent. The orchestral sounds are remixed and double guitar lines often, which adds a whole new dimension to the sound of the average score. It's relatively stirring stuff for the most part. Pick it up for the Little Richard rendition of Leadbelly, and go buy a full John Lee Hooker album anyway. Then think about this album on its own. ~ Adam Greenberg
