Notes & Reviews:

"Samuel Adler (b. 1928) has had a distinguished career as a composer and educator. Adler studied with Copland and Hindemith among others... The disc opens with Acrostics, subtitled "Four Games for Six Players"...Adler consistently finds new things to say within his chosen musical language and makes wonderfully resourceful use of his tiny forces. The delightful performance by the University of Southern Mississippi Faculty Chamber Ensemble appears to be unconducted. This is a winner in every way... [The Piano Concerto No. 2] is another strong Neoclassical work somewhat reminiscent of Prokofiev's Third. The tunes are terrific and the composer's sense of scale never falters. The performance by Alan Feinberg is, naturally, very fine...this is a fine work also and well repays the listener's attention." - John Story, Fanfare
