Notes & Reviews:

On volume 21 of Hyperion's highly regarded Romantic Violin Concerto series, Jack Liebeck follows in the footsteps of Heifetz and Perlman in championing Bruch's now neglected (Violin Concerto No.2). Composed in 1877, it was dedicated to the great Spanish violinist Pablo de Sarasate. Three shorter concertante works for violin and orchestra complete the album, including the Adagio appassionato Op.57, which Bruch believed to be one of his best works.
