Notes & Reviews:
This CD comprises choral music from the 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th centuries by composers from France, Italy and Spain. Machaut served as a canon at Reims Cathedral (disc 1), while Palestrina, Allegri, Morales and Josquin composed the works featured on disc 2 for the Sistine Chapel at the Vatican. Andrew Parrott founded the Taverner Choir, Consort & Players in 1973. The ensemble enjoys a reputation for pioneering work in period performance practice and for first-rate performances based on adventurous and uncompromising scholarship. The ensemble encompasses repertoire from over seven centuries, but is especially well known for its recordings of music from the pre-Classical era.
