Notes & Reviews:
This unique and exciting program features mixed music for percussion and saxophone. Music from Astor Piazzolla, Ekhard Kopetzki, Nathan Daughtrey, Halim El-Dabh, and Marc Mellits makes for an interesting lineup of pieces. Saxophonist Nathan Jorgensen is on the Jazz Studies faculty at the University of New Hampshire. Prior to this appointment, he served as Assistant Professor of Woodwinds and Jazz at South Dakota State University. He regularly performs at regional and national conventions for professional organizations, and regularly appears with various Jazz ensembles, notably the Jazz Diversity Project, which is funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts. He's joined by Percussionist Aaron Ragsdale, who is Assistant Professor of Percussion and Assistant Director of Bands at South Dakota State University. He is an avid activist for the creation and performance of new works for solo percussion and percussion ensemble, and is responsible for the commission and premiere of several new works.
