Notes & Reviews:

In the last year of his life, 1921, French composer Camille Saint-Saens composed these three sonatas for what he termed the "neglected instruments" of the orchestra. His solo chamber works for winds are unjustly neglected, usually overshadowed by Debussy's late chamber sonatas from around the same time period. These works represent all of Saint-Saen's work for winds and are performed by some of Europe's fines chamber musicians in The Ensemble Villa Musica.

BBC Music Magazine
Dag Jensen's playing of the Bassoon Sonata is the best thing on the disc, exhibiting a lightness and humour somewhat lacking elsewhere.
