Notes & Reviews:

Britten was to write music in every genre, from Grand opera to simple folk-song settings, his catalogue of works including concertos for both piano and violin, with the "concerto" for cello being in the form of a symphony. This is music of considerable passion and drama, calling for virtuoso soloists, yet it has a strong and vibrant melodic content, the score coming in direct descent from the Romantic era.
