Notes & Reviews:

July 1999 marked the tenth anniversary of the death of Herbert von Karajan in Salzburg. Simultaneously at the helm of the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna State Opera and the Salzburg Festival, Karajan was for many years the most famous conductor on the planet. For this recording, many of the musicians who played under Karajan in the BPO returned to the orchestra to perform in the conductor's memory.
